Problem

Insight

As a world building concept I created the Late Night Crew, a fictional race team that lives between of streetwear and speed culture. Every world needs a city. I needed one that didn't exist yet and couldn't be found in stock photography. The aesthetic had to be specific: nighttime, neon, cinematic, warm. The feeling of summertime metropolis all year.

AI generation isn't a shortcut, it requires the same creative judgment as any other medium. You need to know what you're looking for before you can prompt for it. I'd been studying prompt engineering and completed Google's AI Essentials certification. That foundation made the difference between generating noise and generating something usable.

Direction

Generated the city in Leonardo AI using a refined prompt built around the Late Night Crew aesthetic — warm orange light, neon accents, dense skyline, cinematic scale. High-quality output, then enlarged and sharpened in Topaz for production resolution.

The image was never meant to be on pants. It was a world-building asset for a future project.

The Pivot

Output/Impact

I put it on a sample to test how the print would hold on fabric. I wore them and at least one person daily asked where I got them.

That response told me what the image actually was.

The Skyline Track Pants. AI-generated cityscape printed across the leg panels of an orange track pant. Applied to the Refil line and listed on refils.net.

One of Refil’s most popular products in 2024. Validated on the street before it was officially listed. The image built for one project became the product that proved the pipeline worked.

  • The image was AI-generated and upscaled. The creative direction, product concept, and decision to bring it to market were not.
