The neighbor across the way had a company, a vision, and a previous designer who couldn't close the gap between the two. The job fell to the designer still building their portfolio, and what came out of it became one of the defining marks of the designer's early output. A logo that held up, that traveled, that did the thing logos are supposed to do. The fee did not match the result, because the scope was never locked and the conversation about value hadn't happened yet. It's the tax on a certain kind of early-career win: you deliver something that exceeds the brief, you leave the table having learned more than you earned, and both of those things are true at the same time.
